PRIORITISE YOUR MINDSET TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS

Newsflash; business success is 5% strategy and 95% mindset.

Let me share with you some wisdom that I promise will help you have long-lasting business success, longevity and joy…

You can have the best business strategy in the world but if YOU are not feeling good, motivated or focussed you will not be able to execute it.

If you think about it logically, it makes sense.

But we’re only human and running a business is one hell of a steep learning curve. Believe me, I have been taught this strategy vs. mindset lesson time and time (and time) again in my own business and have seen it unfold with many of my clients.

Symptoms of someone who focuses on strategy over mindset:

  • Suffers from burnout/ has burnout / is burnt out
  • Doesn’t enjoy what they’re doing
  • Feels out of alignment
  • Feels unmotivated and uninspired
  • Isn’t getting the results they hope for – repeatedly
  • Keeps buying lots of courses/ investing in strategic solutions to ‘fix their lack of results’
  • Often doesn’t even end up doing said courses
  • Dwells on mistakes/ failures
  • Doesn’t realise their own (and their business’) potential
  • Spends a lot of time worrying

Why do we, as solopreneurs, often believe (even if it’s unconscious) that strategy trumps mindset?

There are heaps of reasons why we choose to believe the narrative that focussing on strategy, above all else, will help us to be successful.

1. We’re used to working in a corporate environment

Often, it’s because we’ve come out of a corporate structure/ environment and have been conditioned to think in this way.

The reality is that focussing on strategy is actually easier than working on your mindset. Mindset work is less tangible and the results only become noticeable with time and consistency. So if we aren’t sure about how to improve our mindset, it’s easy to just think, “ OK I’ll just focus on building out this marketing strategy instead, that’s way easier!’

2. A lack of self-awareness

If you are at the beginning of your personal development journey, you may not actually be aware of the (often toxic) belief systems you have that are essentially running the show. But your beliefs impact your thoughts, decisions, actions and outcomes, so you better believe that they are!

3. Imposter syndrome

It might also be a lack of self-trust/ imposter syndrome. It might feel easier to follow a step-by-step strategy than to cultivate deep self-belief and confidence in your own abilities and instincts.

4. We believe more work = bigger and better results

Most people think the harder they work and the more strategies they layer onto their business, the more results they will get. This might work for some in the short term but it is a fast track to burnout and how much success can you create when you can’t get out of bed?!

Running your own business is your opportunity to start thinking for yourself! And looking after yourself too. YOU are your business – so YOU have got to be firing on all cylinders.

How can you start prioritising your mindset?

In order to create the success you desire, you have to look after your mind. In fact, you have to look after your mind, body and soul. It’s about doing little things each day in order to build healthy habits that support your mindset.

This involves things like:

  • Practising self-compassion
  • Noticing negative self-talk and changing the way you talk to yourself
  • Reframing failure
  • Practising a varied self-care routine
  • Having a morning routine
  • Exercise
  • Rest and relaxation
  • Overcoming imposter syndrome
  • Managing anxieties
  • Using positive affirmations
  • Spending time doing things that nourish you (reading, podcasts, events etc.)
  • Journalling
  • Transforming limiting beliefs

Let this be your reminder that the time spent looking after your mind, body and soul is absolutely critical to your business’ success and fulfilment – so make it a priority!

How are you feeling in your business at the moment? Do you prioritise your strategy over your mindset? Are you allowing yourself time to look after your mind, body and soul?
